Their hearts were slamming against the rib cage, with shaking hands they tried to be there for each other, support one another. The future had trapped them in the events that were set to traumatize them. Confused, scared and drained of energy- all of the children standing in front of the house that was set on fire wanted to run away and never look back.
Helpless, the children heard the cries for help. They watched the fire grow as it mercilessly took everyone and everything into its crackle of flame. Staring at each other in disbelief, they knew that nothing would remain the same. Their lives had taken a wild turn, their childhood was scarred. Little did they know, this was not it. The future had a lot in store for them.
Joe Ginaro is a Korean war veteran. Standing at 5’11, he has an olive complexion, wide shoulders and friendly brown eyes. His salt and pepper hair are evident of the seasons he has witnessed. He lost his right leg during the war and now uses a wooden prosthetic. Currently, he works as a Mechanic at Grumans. He is known around the town for his friendly nature and his loyalty to his best friend, Minhoe.
Joe’s best friend, Minhoe, is also a Korean war veteran. Fun fact, being a North Korean soldier, Minhoe was the one who shot Joe Ginaro, an American soldier, who lost his leg as a consequence. Minhoe has strong Asian features, is 5’10 with a thin built. The war didn’t just take away Joe’s leg, Minhoe also lost 3 of his fingers from frostbite. Despite it all, Minhoe enjoys life, and is always seen wearing a smile. He has a daughter named Ginny.
Hannah is a fair-skinned, blue-eyed, adventurous girl who loves her friends. As a 10-year-old, she spent a lot of her time playing catch with her father, who she loved dearly and shared a special bond with. In addition to that, she was an advanced athelete and often challenged the boys in her group to competitions. Similar to her father, Joe, she is best friends with Ginny, who is Minhoe’s daughter. The two of them are inseparable. They have even pledged forgiveness and loyalty to each other.
50-year-old Hannah is tall, blond, and athletic-looking. Her unhealthy gym obsessions, crumbling marriage, and bouts of depression stem from the guilt she carries from what she did to Ginny’s father and her childhood friends on that fateful day. Her guilt perpetuates when she realizes she is also ruining her son Brandon’s life. Her intense self-absorption and painful guilt keeps her from giving any attention to her son. It is not until Ginny forgives her that Hannah can finally free herself of the burden she has been carrying around.
Black-haired, tan-skinned, 10-year-old Ginny is a quiet girl with observing eyes. There’s hint of a Korean accent when she speaks. She was raised by her parents to be loyal. Being Hannah’s best friend, she enjoys her spontaneous, fun and adventurous spirit. Other times, she spends with her pet duck.
Having spent most of her adult life in Korea, Ginny returns to her hometown to finally resolve issues with her friend, Hannah. 50-year-old Ginny has bronze skin and long, black, straight hair. She has a friendly personality, but also remains very inquisitive. She displays incredible bouts of bravery, an event that ends up taking her life.
Robert, a 10-year-old boy with brown hair, is tall and maturing quicker than the others in his group. His hair is loose and brown. He is also athletic and gives Edd tough competition in the group in terms of athletic dominance. He is always smiling, however, his smile is an effort to mask the growing frustration that he is subjected to from his overbearing father. As a student, he loves Math and Science.
50-year-old Robert is an engineer; he got married and divorced early. He has a son named Lou. Robert still has a hard time understanding what happened to him when he was in the tunnels back in 1977. He can’t let it go, and starts to become nervous as the years move forward. He maintains a thinly built, with a receding hairline.
10-year-old Edd is the tallest in the group and is never seen without his bucket hat. Being the strongest and the most athletic one, he often dominates tackle football games. The others in the group often fear him because of his strong emotions.
Still recovering from the trauma induced on him from being in the tunnels back in 1977, Edd often has nightmares. Currently, he owns a construction company and has five children.
Youngest of 12 kids in the family, and the smallest one in the group, 10-year-old Mark is driven by his need for attention. This often led him into mischief and even helped develop his verbal wisecrack skills. He can outwit anyone. His black hair and an awkward birthmark on his neck distinguish him from others.
50-year-old Mark has built a career as a fireman. His small frame allows him to crawl into tight places. One day on his way to the ‘fire scene’, he sees something that is beyond comprehension and leaves him baffled.
10-year-old Erik is of medium built, with tan skin, light hair and heavy freckles. His mother escaped Nazi Germany and has told him many war stories, which spiked his interest in the military, especially the Marines. As a young child, he often views his childhood adventures through the lens of a soldier.
50-year-old works with his childhood friend, Mark, as a fireman. Erik has moved on from his tunnel experience and leads a rather normal life. He has categorized it as the ‘unknown’ and does not dwell on it.
Michael and Steve are both fair-skinned, light-haired brothers. Michael is 11 while Steve is 10 years old. Their mother is overbearing, and often, they question potential adventures that the group is about to go on. However, they love being part of the group because they can be goofy and silly without getting into trouble when they are with their friends. Even though Steve is younger, he is often looking out for his brother's safety and well-being. Michael and Steve tragically passed away in the 9/11 attacks.
Brandon is Hannah’s 13-year-old son, who is the epitome of a classic millennial. His desire for parental guidance and attention succumbs to a massive appetite for electronic entertainment. He has bouts of hostile fits of anger, and his depression is being treated with medication. His sedentary lifestyle of often staying in his house alone playing video games has developed an unhealthy mind and an overweight body.
